Overview

The Group Lead is the contact person for Civil/Structural/Architectural and Piping personnel with regard to all engineering and design aspects for the project execution.   The Department Manager shall be responsible for the department operations covering all engineering phases from proposal, basic, detail, construction and commissioning

Responsibilities

The Group Lead shall also be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • Hire, train, develop, and appraise staff effectively. Take corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy.  Consult with Human Resources as appropriate.
  • Manage departmental budget and control expenses effectively.
  • Execute projects as a lead engineer, if necessary
  • Support proposal activities and provide cost estimates.
  • Support development of schedules.
  • Develop manpower forecasts, budgets, and department staffing levels.
  • Monitor and measure department performance.
  • Develop department procedures, work instructions, forms, and related documentation.
  • Develop budgets for capital and operating expenses
  • Develop concepts for implementation of engineering and design applications and tools.
  • Establish appropriate staff meetings to provide information not related to projects.
  • Check & approve key project deliverables.
  • Driving operational excellence, optimizing processes, and implementing best practices.
  • Provide active coordination & supervision of Project Execution.
  • Develop technical presentations for management concerning technical issues.
  • Develop design standards and specifications.
  • Learn and abide by the Linde Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct. Demonstrate honesty, integrity, and professionalism in all communications, actions and decisions.

 

Qualifications

  • BS/BA in Civil, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 12 or more years’ relevant experience in process plant engineering and design, out of which 3 or more years in managing an engineering function in a medium or large size EPC company.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) Certificate of Registration
  • Effective conflict management skills, both technically and interpersonal.
  • Ability to lead change initiatives
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment, exposure to project execution in global work share teams
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills including background in problem solving techniques such as Six Sigma or Lean.
  • Effective communication skills both verbally and in writing with superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the Company.

  • Ability to manage significant technical personnel resources
  • Ability to break down complex procedures into easily defined steps
  • Ability to leverage both positive and negative feedback to drive continuous improvement
  • Effective computer skills: Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook / Lotus Notes, discipline specific CAD/CAE software applications.
  • Experience with a 3D CAD software, preferably PDS or SmartPlant; exposure to project execution using 3D CAD based work flow.
  • Possess a broad understanding of each engineering discipline.
  • Understanding of workflow within an engineering company environment.
  • Project management, Field Construction experience is a plus but not required
  • Deep knowledge of relevant international codes and standards
