Overview

The Senior Process Engineer – FCE is an engineering leader within a specific technical group and is responsible for the successful integration of that type of equipment into overall plant designs.

Responsibilities

The Senior Process Engineer – FCE shall also be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • During proposal phase for furnace product lines, develop the process design for a fired tubular heater to either add sensible heat, thermally crack, vaporize or reform a specified fluid.
  • During proposal phase for oxidation product lines, develop the process design for fired incinerators and flameless oxidation technologies to either achieve oxidation of gaseous or liquid fume and waste streams for the purpose of oxidizing feed stream to a valued effluent stream. Select and specify auxiliary equipment for the thermal oxidizer design such as burners, injectors, weirs, fans, filters, waste heat recovery units, and stack.
  • Perform process calculations such as combustion calculations, heating surface ratings, and heat and material balances.
  • Prepare the technical proposal which includes equipment data sheets, input for process flow diagrams and piping and instrumentation drawings, and description of scope along with exceptions to applicable specifications.
  • Develop technical specifications and obtain quotations from suppliers for the auxiliary equipment associated with fired capital equipment for incorporating in overall process design.
  • Assist the product managers and sales staff to successfully sell projects.
  • Provide input for estimator to determine costs of the fired capital equipment.
  • During project phase, prepare a process check on calculations performed by the process engineer during the proposal phase.
  • Complete data sheets and process specifications with sufficient information to develop inquiry and purchase specification for equipment such as burners, fans, heat exchangers, steam systems, pumps etc.
  • Specify and evaluate equipment required to meet environmental regulations e.g. noise, NOx and other pollutants.
  • Perform studies on the performance of fired equipment, such as resolve operational problems, study expansion, revamp or retrofit of fired equipment.
  • Give technical presentations at client office or conference.
  • Provide guidance and support to other members of the group.
  • Provide trouble shooting services on fired capital equipment.
  • Assist during commissioning and/or start-up of equipment.
  • Participate in continuous improvement of the fired capital equipment products as well as guide and develop junior process engineers as needed.
  • Assist in the development and/or revision of department procedures and work instructions, as well as standard specifications.
  • Learn and abide by the Linde Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct. Demonstrate honesty, integrity, and professionalism in all communications, actions and decisions.

Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering or Sciences (Chemical, Mechanical, Physics or Chemistry)
  • Five years' experience in process design of fired equipment (steam reformers, olefins furnaces, fired heaters for refinery or chemical application or thermal oxidizers)-or 10-years; experience with fired capital equipment.
  • Thermal oxidation equipment process design experience preferred.
  • Self-motivated and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Good communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced computer skills.
  • Possess working knowledge of commonly applicable standards and codes, with respect to tube materials, heat loss, storage and thickness calculations.
  • Experience with PFR FRNC5 a plus, but not required.
