  • Overview

    The Senior Process Engineer for the Hydrogen & Synthesis Gas business unit is responsible for the conceptual design, process specifications and basic engineering for projects and proposals within Business Unit.


    The Senior Process Engineer shall be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

    • Provide process engineering and technical expertise in the areas of hydrogen production, syngas generation, syngas cleanup technology, CO separation, and downstream derivative production such as ammonia, methanol, etc.
    • Support budgetary and firm priced proposals with engineering works including but not limited to budgets, conceptual and basic designs, heat and material balances, equipment specifications, utilities, and schedules.
    • Review P&IDs and layouts
    • Work up RFQs for buyout items and review quotes
    • Perform process simulations and develop Process Flow Diagrams (PFD’s) and Heat and Material Balances.
    • Develop sizing information for Process Equipment (compressors, pumps, heat exchangers, Distillation columns, separators, reactors, etc.) and provide information in the form of equipment data sheets.
    • Prepare line sizing requirements.
    • Prepare material selection designation (diagram) for plant requirements.
    • Develop innovative ideas and alternatives to be cost competitive with Proposals.
    • Assist with preparation of Operating Manuals.
    • Provide technical expertise to the project execution team.
    • Assist in developing plant control philosophy.
    • Assist in Plant start-up and performance testing, as required.
    • Calculate plant recoveries and utility requirements. Determine guarantee levels.
    • Participate in sales meetings, proposal meetings, kick-off meetings, HAZOPs, PHAs, model reviews, and performance tests.
    • Walk down plants
    • Supervise and/or assist in loading of catalysts and adsorbents.
    • Perform other duties as required.

    • B. S. in Chemical Engineering, minimum.
    • Five (5) years industry experience required
    • Experience in process simulation, specifying equipment, conceptual and process design of hydrogen and/or synthesis gas plants required.
    • Working knowledge of Process simulators, e.g. Unisim, AspenTech, etc.
    • Intermediate level skills with Microsoft Office software and Windows Operating system.
    • Intermediate level of experience with a heat exchanger rating program (e.g HTRI)
    • Able to work with minimal supervision.
    • Able to prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
    • Detail oriented.
    • Effective analytical and problems solving skills.
    • Creative and innovative.
    • Able to work in matrixed team environment on multiple tasks/priorities.
