  • Overview

    Responsible for procurement of equipment and materials for assigned projects and add value to company projects with effective procurement on a timely manner per Company policies, procedures and work instructions.

    Responsibilities

    The Project Buyer shall be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

    • Identify & qualify potential new suppliers and process the documentation to include in the company approved supplier list.
    • Participate in development of Procurement Strategies and adopt related strategies to your working environment
    • Support business groups with supplier quotes at the project proposal phase
    • Prepare and issue Request for Quote (RFQ) to selected bidders as per project procurement strategy and coordinate RFQ and organize commercial and technical bid clarifications with Engineering, Project Procurement Management & Project Management department.
    • Evaluate and negotiate the quotations of bidders and prepare bid analyses (TCO evaluation sheet) and issue recommendation to Project Procurement Manager
    • Conduct final price negotiation in close cooperation with the PPM and the Project Manager, Prepare and issue purchase order to selected supplier and expedite receipt of order confirmation
    • Administer and continuously maintain database to ensure that all required data is available, correct and up to date.
    • Initiate supplier rating process.
    • Issue and negotiate claims due to non-conformities with suppliers.
    • Prepare close-out of the purchase order (e.g. penalty).
    • Participate in Project Meetings as required.
    • Learn and abide by the Linde Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct. Demonstrate honesty, integrity, and professionalism in all communications, actions and decisions.

    Qualifications

    • BS/BA in Business, Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Five (5) years’ experience as a buyer for a chemical, petrochemical or gas production company or for an EPC company specializing in the petrochemical / chemical industries.
    • Engineering or project management experience is preferred.
    • Strong background in commercial environment
    • Experience with and understanding of process plant project schedules and material requirement preferred.
    • Experience with ERP business system preferred.
    • Knowledge of and ability to apply basic fundamentals of procurement laws.
    • Ability to read and understand commercial implications of specifications, drawings, documents and other related information.
    • Possess a broad understanding of the process industry
    • Ability to identify commercial risk and minimize associated consequences.
    • Effective computer skills; Microsoft Office Software, with excellent skills in Excel. SAP/MM and other Company and discipline specific software applications, preferred.
    • Effective communication skills both verbally and in writing with superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the Company.
    • Excellent negotiation skills and knowledge of commercial terms and conditions
    • Comprehensive technical/mechanical understanding.
    • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Effective organization skills including the ability to prioritize and plan work
    • Effective skills to work on multiple projects simultaneously, detail oriented with ability to do multi-tasks.
