  • Overview

    Systems Engineers are responsible for developing the P&ID’s, indicating the detailed process flows including all equipment, piping components, block valves and details of the installed instrument control and safety equipment.


    The Systems Engineer shall be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

    • Provide information throughout the various proposal, engineering and construction phases to the proposal and project teams with regard to all aspects of systems engineering.
    • Develop proposal and project specific specifications for the preparation of P&ID’s and the supervision of the installation of the project P&ID data base; such as numbering, tagging, graphical symbols, etc.
    • Support the Account Manager (when requested) in discussion of technical details with the Business Development team and/or client
    • Develop and update P&ID’s for the entire facility for proposals throughout project execution, including:
    • Line sizes for all lines shown on the P&IDs
    • Hydraulic calculations for all lines, including pump NPSH and thermosiphon reboilers
    • Line lists, including testing of piping
    • Logic diagrams and cause & effect charts for the facility
    • Alarm & Setpoint List
    • Process data sheets for utility equipment
    • Process requirements for all instruments
    • Prepare Operating Manual, Operator Training Presentation, and Pre-Commissioning and Commissioning Plans
    • Review and comment on packaged equipment P&ID’s including the vendor logic diagrams and cause & effect charts.
    • Review equipment drawings regarding process relevant aspects
    • Participate in the model reviews of the plant.
    • Participate in HAZOP studies
    • Support the Commissioning Manager in pre-commissioning activities such as the SAT
    • Learn and abide by the Linde Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct. Demonstrate honesty, integrity, and professionalism in all communications, actions and decisions.


    • Bachelor of Science Degree, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, or licensure and equivalent experience.
    • New graduate to ten years industry experience.
    • Effective computer skills; Microsoft Office software, Lotus Notes and other Company and discipline specific software applications.
    • Effective communication skills both verbally and in writing with superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the Company.
    • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Knowledge of material balance, process engineering, process controls, plant hydraulics, and process safety management
