  • Overview

    The Head of Cost Estimating, North America directs and oversees all operations of estimating for the Air Separation, Hydrogen, Petrochemical, Natural Gas, Refining, and Adsorption Business Units inclusive of both proposal and project execution requirements.     The role has accountability for ensuring uniformity of the processes across all Business Units, Divisions, and Plantserv™.


    The Head of Cost Estimating, North America shall also be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

    • The role develops policies and procedures related to the estimating required for the bid process, change order management, and post project performance analysis.
    • Develop and maintain estimating methods including both in house and third party proprietary estimating software such as Aspen Capital Cost Estimator and Microsoft Excel; support global development and alignment of tools and software in the best overall interests for The Linde Group.
    • Coordinate the work of the team members within their responsibility in close cooperation with the respective Business Unit Managers and Proposal Development Managers.
    • Provide strategic leadership in the areas of responsibility including setting long-range goals and plans.
    • Establish and maintain streamlined and standardized cost models that allows the customer to be quick to market
    • Establish and maintain cost estimating processes for construction in North America that are integrated with construction partners in key markets.
    • Analyze performance of project to generate cost saving recommendations for Construction and Project Execution
    • Present reports to senior management that offer early warnings based on analysis and anticipated trends
    • Hire, train, develop, and appraise estimating staff effectively. Take correct action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy.  Consult with Human Resources as appropriate.
    • Coordination of departmental and inter-departmental activities recognizing and managing the interfaces.
    • Develop summary presentations for senior management to guide proposal and project decisions
    • Manages manpower forecasts, budgets and department staffing levels.
    • Manages estimating process with consideration of market trends and market intelligence
    • Ensures that the estimated basis for all proposals is fully communicated with verified understanding by the project team resources
    • Deliver recommendations to business units to reduce cost
    • Learn and abide by the Linde Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct. Demonstrate honesty, integrity, and professionalism in all communications, actions and decisions.


    • BS/BA in engineering or related technical field. Equivalent combination of education and experience can be considered for this requirement. 
    • 10 Years estimating experience in process plants or related industries.
    • Expert working knowledge of Aspen Capital Cost Estimator.
    • AACE Certified Cost Technician (CCT) certification preferred.
    • Effective computer skills:  Microsoft Office software, Lotus Notes and other Company and discipline specific software applications.
    • Effective communication skills both verbally and in writing with superiors, colleagues and individuals inside and outside the Company.
    • Effective Leadership skills.
    • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
    • Attention to detail.
